Garden of Blu is a memoir about being lost in the dark, living with chronic illness, grief, and depression while discovering self-worth and growing through it all. There is a moment in life where we can make the decision to break generational patterns and bloom, despite our circumstances and roots.
Misti Blu was born with multiple invisible illnesses, which went undiagnosed for most of her life. While struggling with major depressive disorder and PTSD, she was a young mother to her three children. Life was all about trying to survive instead of thriving, with many hopeless days and not feeling good enough. One day she stood in front of the mirror, heartbroken over who she had become. Her focus shifted to self-healing and learning to love herself. She ditched the booze, set goals, and reevaluated her relationships and perspective while navigating through grief and trauma. Some flowers bloom in the dark. Misti shares her vulnerable story and collective writing (starting at the age of 15), hoping to shed light on mental health, self-care, chronic illness, loss, and trauma.
Misti Blu Day McDermott shines in her authorial debut, Garden of Blu. It is insightful and so validating to get a glimpse of her world, as someone who also struggles living with sometimes debilitating invisible chronic conditions. Her first offering (of hopefully many) is brutally honest, unapologetically vulnerable, and completely captivating, just like she is. Misti’s empowering perspective and candid style are inspiring and just the refreshing attitude adjustment I needed. Enjoy, my friends; unabashed authenticity awaits!
Misti's story is inspiring, informative, honest and thoughtful. Her refreshing perspective on life is a beacon of light for anyone who has ever tried to pull themselves out of a dark place. Garden of Blu offers a real, raw look at the life and mind of a beautiful soul who grows and blooms through the adversity and challenges she faces. Misti is a storyteller (among many other talents!) who paints pictures with her words and poems to make Garden of Blu a book you won't want to put down. I laughed, I cried, I craved tacos. I definitely recommend this book.

In “Garden of Blu”, Misti beautifully weaves poems, advice, and imagery into the telling of her life story.
